Trim Tab |
A hinged section along the aft section of the keel; used to balance the boat. |
Trimaran |
A three hulled boat. |
Trot |
A row of floating moorings. |
Vang |
Pulls the boom down and forward increasing the leech tension of the mainsail, and bending the lower secton of the mast forward (depending on the rig setup). |
Wake |
The small wave that comes off the back of a moving boat. |
Warp |
A rope used to secure a boat, especiallty to the anchor; a length of rope(s) attached to a sailboat to facilitate steering in severe weather. |
Weigh Anchor |
To raise the anchor. |
Winch |
Cylinder that spins in only one direction around which lines are wraped to pull them in; a mechanical device to wind in rope under load. |
Windlass |
A device used to raise the anchor. |
Windward |
The direction nearest the wind; the side closest to the oncoming wind. |
Wineglass |
A twisted or tangled spinnaker. |
Zephyr |
A very light wind. |
